A Memorial Lecture was conducted , in memory of the 9th death anniversary of the Founder of ICFAI Group founder , Late N J Yasaswy, with focus on “Ethics and Moral Values for Happiness in Life”. The lecture was delivered in online mode by Swami Madhavananda Saraswati Maharaj, Chinmaya Mission and Dr. Ratikanta Dash, Sr. DGM (HR), L&T Construction. On the occasion, Vice-Chancellors of several ICFAI Universities also paid their homage to Late N J Yasaswy.
Welcoming the guests and audience to the event, Prof. ORS Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the University gave a brief profile of Late N J Yasaswyand his achievements . Describing him as a self-made man with multifarious talents, Prof Rao said , “Very rarely we come across a person like N J Yasaswy, with such humility and Human Values”. “He built a great PAN India Educational Group , admired for its Quality of Education and Ethics and lived a fulfilling life”, added Prof Rao.
Delivering the NJ Yasaswy Memorial lecture, Swami MadhavanandaSaraswatiMaharaj highlighted that while keeping mind calm and positive is essential for happiness, there area multiple ways of achieving it by way of prayer, bhajans, yoga etc. Referring to Mahabharata, he likened Pandavas as a symbol of virtues and Kauravas as different vices. Swamiji also emphasized that ethical behavior helps to keep the mind positive and calm. Dr. Ratikanta Dash gave insights into Values, Ethics ,Virtues and Happiness using practical examples. He advised the students to inculcate good personal values and follow the organisational / professional ethics, during their professional life.
Addressing the audience, Prof Jagannath Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor, ICFAI University, Sikkim said , “An Exemplary Citizen is not born but made with inculcation of values through values-based education”. Prof H P Singh, Vice-Chancellor, ICFAI University, Himachal Pradesh said , “ Good character makes a good human being . students must inculcate values right from the beginning so that it becomes a strong foundation for their life”.
Prof. ORS Rao, Vice-Chancellor also announced the NJ Yasaswy Memorial Awards of “Student of Values” and “Employee of Values”for the year 2020. Seven students (Ms. Shobhana Samarth from MBA, Mr. Saurav from BBA-LLB, Mr. Aman Shresth from DIT, Ms Arti Kumari from BCA, Ms. HinaSiddiqui from MBA (for Working Professional) and Mr. BhishuCharan Parida from PhDprogram received this awards.
Moreover, the “Employee of Values” awards for 2020 were given to Dr. Goutam Tanty& Prof Arvind Kumar. On this occasion, an Intra University speech competition was organized for the students, on the topic “Why should we be honest?” which was won by Ms Indrani Royof MBA, whereas Mr Ankit Mandal and Ms Shobhana Samarth were placed in second and third positions.
